Finding a house where you want to live the rest of your life can seem quite a challenge. When people are dissatisfied with their current home, their first thought is often to move – without first considering what they can do to improve their current living situation. These are often just the best projects for Drew and Jonathan Scott.
In their new series ‘Property Brothers: Forever Home’, which premiered on 29 May, the famous brothers focus on families who are attached to their home, but are also in need of transformation. Each episode is perhaps emotional, but at the same time incredibly informative.
According to the Property Brothers, most people make the same big mistake when renovating their house. What is that? Well, think of ‘children’ for a moment. Of course, children aren’t the fault, but they’re the reason behind the mistake. Because little ones cause such a mess and ‘destroy everything’ it is important to wait a few years with big projects until they are at least a little bit older.

After all, there’s no point in wasting money on laying a new floor or painting your walls – or even bigger projects – if your children will scratch everything and start drawing on the walls… right? It’s only logical to wait a few years. “If you don’t clean up until then, they won’t destroy as much as when they’re so young,” Drew says.
It seems obvious, but a lot of homeowners have little patience for this. Although it’s temporary, it will cost you extra money in the long run.
